$10K Grant Secured for Canyons Education Foundation by Lone Peak Hospital
Lone Peak Hospital secures $10K grant from the HCA Healthcare Foundation as part of HCA Healthcare's Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows Food & Nutrition Drive.
Draper, Utah — Lone Peak Hospital, as a part of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, recently held its fourth annual Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows Food & Nutrition Drive to support access to nutritious food. Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, colleagues collected food and other household items such as laundry detergent, toilet paper, and baby supplies to be donated to a local food bank.
Hospitals were encouraged to get creative and build sculptures with the donated items before transporting it to their local food banks. The winner in each division received a $10,000 grant from the HCA Healthcare Foundation for the food bank serving their community. The 61-bed facility in Draper created a seven-foot-tall sculpture of a Christmas Tree, resulting in a grant to Canyons Education Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students and their families in the South Salt Lake Valley.
“Canyons Education Foundation is thankful for the support we receive from community and business partners,” says Denise Haycock, Development Officer for the Canyons Education Foundation. “Through generous donations, our Resource Closet can provide hundreds of food bags for students in need every week. These bags are packed with enough food for several meals to provide nutrition over the weekend or during school breaks. We also provide healthy snacks to schools so students can have a quick boost during the day. Students can’t learn if they are hungry. Donations allow us to meet this most basic need.”
"At Lone Peak Hospital, we are incredibly proud of our colleagues for their creativity and hard work in securing this grant. It's a true testament to how our team shows up for the needs of the community,” says Brian Lines, CEO of Lone Peak Hospital. “Partnering with the Canyons Education Foundation is an honor, as we believe deeply in the important work they do for the rising generation. Together, we are building stronger, healthier tomorrows for everyone.”
Food insecurity, the lack of consistent access to enough food to have an active, healthy lifestyle, affects 1 in 9 American families. According to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the number of food insecure households continued to rise in 2023, up to 13.5 percent.
