Three MountainStar hospitals among nation's best for patient safety

Salt Lake City, UT — Three of MountainStar Healthcare’s Utah hospitals ranked among the top 5% in the nation for patient safety, according to Healthgrades’ 2024 Patient Safety Excellence Award™.

Bountiful’s Lakeview Hospital earned the recognition for an impressive 12^th year in a row. Ogden Regional Medical Center and St. Mark’s Hospital both won for the second straight year. The prestigious award recognizes hospitals nationwide that provide quality care while preventing serious safety events.

These three award-winning hospitals are the largest in the MountainStar Healthcare network by bed count, and serve more than 180,000 combined patient interactions each year. In all, MountainStar is comprised of eight hospitals and 80 care sites from Logan to Payson. The Utah-based network is proud to be part of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of health services.

The Patient Safety Excellence Award is based on an analysis of inpatient MedPAR data that measures clinical performance across 13 patient safety indicators. Healthgrades' analysis revealed that patients treated at recipient hospitals are less likely to experience the following safety events compared to patients treated at non-recipient hospitals:

• In-hospital fall resulting in fracture (approximately 52% less likely)
• Collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest (approximately 56% less likely)
• Pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital (approximately 67% less likely)
• Catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital (approximately 71% less likely)

Additionally, Lakeview Hospital and Payson’s Mountain View Hospital also received Healthgrades’ 2024 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ for providing best-in-class patient experience. This marks the third straight year Mountain View Hospital received the award, and Lakeview Hospital was one of just 79 hospitals in the nation to receive both awards.
